Portraying Gorgeous- 19th Fashion Come Back!

HBO’s The Gilded Age shows us how to find inspiration from oil paintings

HBO’s new series The Gilded Age, created by the same screenwriter Julian Fellowes of the famous historical drama Downton Abbey, wows the audience with its elaborate and gorgeous costumes. The scenes look like beautiful oil paintings, vividly showing the elegance of classical art style.

However, what fans may not know is that the series recreates many costumes from famous oil paintings, such as John Singer Sargent’s portraits. The historical period of The Gilded Age echoes the prime of Sargent’s art career, giving us a window into the world he painted at the end of the 19th century. Moreover, there are other actual valuable artworks in the wonderful interior décor, waiting to be spotted by eagle-eyed viewers.
